Lamprey Stops Searching on New Five Track Hype & Soul Release
Not Searchin' (Anymore) moves from hypnotic house into darker broken beat territory as Lamprey continues expanding the edges of an increasingly difficult to categorize sound.
Hype & Soul Recordings returns with Not Searchin' (Anymore), a new five track release from Lamprey that refuses to settle comfortably into a single corner of the dancefloor.
Built around one central musical idea but approached from markedly different directions, the package moves through deep and hypnotic house, tougher late night club territory and dark, low slung broken beats. The result feels less like a conventional remix package and more like five different interpretations of the same thought.
That range has increasingly become part of the Lamprey identity. Rather than treating genre as a fixed destination, the project uses house, breaks, trip hop and more atmospheric electronic forms as different pieces of the same vocabulary. On Not Searchin' (Anymore), that philosophy is especially apparent as tempos, rhythms and energy levels shift while a common emotional thread holds the release together.
At the center of the record is an idea about finally arriving somewhere after a period of uncertainty. The title becomes the connective tissue. Each version approaches that moment differently, sometimes warm and introspective, sometimes built squarely for the club, and elsewhere considerably darker and more fractured.
Across five tracks, Not Searchin' (Anymore) moves freely between house, deep grooves and broken beat territory without forcing the material into a single genre box.
For Hype & Soul Recordings, the release continues a willingness to let underground electronic music get messy around the edges. There is house here, certainly, but Not Searchin' (Anymore) is more interested in following the music wherever it wants to go than making five trax fit neatly inside the same lane.
