DJ Sulli Returns to Seattle for Reverie Society, Bringing New Lamprey Music and Live Vocalist Shawna Sullivan to the Stage
More than five years since his last Uniting Souls appearance, the veteran West Coast house producer returns to Monkey Loft September 20, joined on stage by vocalist Shawna Sullivan and longtime friend and Uniting Souls founder Ramiro.
After more than five years away from a Uniting Souls lineup, DJ Sulli returns to Seattle on Sunday, September 20, joining Reverie Society for an afternoon of underground house music at Monkey Loft.
Presented by Viva Recordings, Uniting Souls and Shameless, Reverie Society has become a Sunday gathering centered around house music, community and the distinctly soulful side of Seattle's electronic music culture.
For Sulli, the booking is something of a homecoming. He lived in Seattle at several points throughout the '90s and 2000s and has a long history with the city's underground house scene. His relationship with Uniting Souls stretches back decades, making this more than simply another stop on the calendar.
RAMIRO AND THE UNITING SOULS CONNECTION
Opening in support of Sulli is Ramiro, founder of Uniting Souls and one of the enduring figures in Seattle house music.
A longtime friend and confidant of Sulli's, Ramiro has been an important influence on him personally and musically. More broadly, his work with Uniting Souls for nearly three decades has helped provide Seattle's house community with something increasingly rare: continuity.
Through its events and Uniting Souls Music imprint, the collective has remained a consistent source of quality underground music, positive energy and community, while giving generations of DJs, producers and dancers a place to connect.
For Sulli, sharing the booth with Ramiro again brings the history behind this particular Seattle return full circle.
Sulli is currently developing Chiaroscuro, an immersive live-performance concept built around Lamprey’s music, live vocals and cinematic presentation. While the full production is still taking shape, the Reverie Society appearance offers an early glimpse of that direction, with Sulli and Sullivan performing three new productions live ahead of their official release.
A NEW RUN OF MUSIC
The appearance lands amid a particularly active stretch in the studio.
Lamprey recently released Not Searchin' Anymore through Sulli's own Hype & Soul Recordings, moving through deep house, tech house and broken-beat territory across several mixes.
That has been followed by DJ Sulli's Sacred Energy on Denver's Quite Right Records, with additional releases forthcoming on Selekta Recordings and other labels.
For an artist with decades of history in Seattle, September 20 isn't simply about revisiting the past. Sulli is returning to a community that helped shape him while bringing an entirely new body of music with him.
Joining Sulli on stage will be Seattle-area vocalist Shawna Sullivan, an emerging voice beginning to make her mark in the region’s electronic music community. A talented live vocalist with a natural presence behind the microphone, Sullivan will bring a human element to Sulli’s increasingly performance-driven approach, performing live vocals over several of his productions. The Reverie Society appearance gives Seattle an early look at the chemistry between the two as Sulli continues developing the live dimension of the Lamprey project.
